What are Shakti Peethas?

हिन्दी

Shakti Peethas are sacred centres of Goddess worship connected with South Asian pilgrimage traditions. Many narratives relate their origin to Sati, Shiva's consort, and tell how sacred sites became associated with parts of her body or ornaments after her death. The details depend on the text and regional tradition. The sites are places of devotion and living sacred geography, not merely points on a single standardized list.

A frequently cited tradition names 51 Peethas, but other texts and living traditions provide different counts and site identifications. Some include associated Bhairava or Shiva forms. Therefore ShivGoraksh should not publish one supposedly universal list of exact sites and body-part correspondences without specifying its textual source and checking each locator. The story is religious narrative; archaeological and historical claims need separate evidence.
