Shiva and Shakti are closely associated in many Shaiva and Shakta traditions, but the relationship has no single universally accepted explanation. In some nondual Shaiva teachings, Shiva names consciousness while Shakti expresses its intrinsic power of manifestation: the two are inseparable rather than independent rivals. The composite image Ardhanarishvara expresses their intimate unity in a memorable visual form.
Some Shakta theologies place the Goddess as the supreme source of the universe; certain Shaiva systems foreground Shiva, while other devotional settings speak of the pair as divine consorts. These are differences in theological perspective, not necessarily disagreements over the importance of either deity. When teaching a specific philosophical claim, ShivGoraksh should identify the school or text rather than present one formula as the teaching of every Hindu tradition.
