Gorakhnath (Goraksha, Gorakshanath) is among the most important revered masters of the Nath tradition. Many communities regard him as a model yogi and a central organizer or transmitter of Nath teachings. Stories portray his discipline, dialogue with teachers and students, and extraordinary spiritual accomplishments; some devotional accounts connect him directly with Shiva.
His historical chronology remains uncertain, and scholars distinguish the revered guru of lineage memory from any securely documented individual biography. Numerous Sanskrit and vernacular works are attributed to Gorakhnath, but attribution does not establish that he personally wrote each surviving text. The most reliable introduction therefore names both his lasting spiritual authority within the tradition and the genuine limits of what can be established historically.
