Why do puja customs differ across regions and traditions?

हिन्दी

Hindu puja customs differ because Hindu traditions have developed through many regions, languages, lineages, temples and households over long periods. Distinct deities, local histories, seasonal festivals and inherited ritual texts can shape how people worship. The same devotional purpose—honouring the divine—may be expressed through different songs, materials, languages or forms of offering.

Variation does not automatically mean that one community is wrong or that every custom is interchangeable. Some practices are flexible household conventions; others are governed by a particular temple's rules or a named lineage. A trustworthy guide identifies whose practice it describes, the supporting source and whether a feature is required, optional or restricted within that setting.
